Please see post #10.

1. ...it does not require an adjective modifier? (OK)
2. ...by saying that it does not require an adjective modifier? (OK)

Thanks.

What color is it? = Blue is it?
What date is it? = November 14th is it?

For my dialect, "What date" is incorrect:

*What date is it? = November 14th date is it?

So both of these incorrect?
1. What color is it? = Blue is it? (How come the question for this one sounds correct?)
2. What date is it? = November 14th date is it?
3. What colour is this? = Blue is this? (So this one is wrong too?)
How can I correct #1 and #3?

2. What do you mean by (saying that) it does not require an adjective modifier? (Is this incorrect without 'saying that'?)

1a. What color is it?
1b. Blue is it?
2a. What date is it? (Not OK)
2b. November 14th date is it? (Not OK)
3a. What colour is this?
3b. Blue is this? (OK, but kind of odd with 'this')
4. (saying that)
Note, the brackets (...) mean, optional.

I still can't really see how is it wrong? Can you give me another exmaple like this? Thanks.

1. November 14th date it is. I am not going to change the date. (Is this incorrect as well?)

2. What do you mean by (saying that) it does not require an adjective modifier? (Is this incorrect without 'saying that'?)
2. What do you mean by (saying) that it does not require an adjective modifier? (Is this incorrect without 'saying'? Why? Does it also mean it's omitted? If so, is it correct then?)

Question: *What date is it tomorrow?
Inversion: *It is what date tomorrow?
Noun replacement: *It is November 14th date tomorrow.

This is wrong right?

2. What date is it tomorrow? *ungrammatical

How come this is right?
3. What date is it please?

For some speakers, the structure "What date" is similar to "What color":

What color is it? = Blue is it?
What date is it? = November 14th is it?

For my dialect, "What date" is incorrect:

*What date is it? = November 14th date is it?
Thank you for the detailed reply. Do you mean these ungrammatical sentences are incorrect to your ear?

I think I heard people said "What color is it" before.

Thursday is the day tomorrrow.
--> What is the day tomorrow?

Don't they sound funny?
Thursday day is it tomorrow.
--> What day is it tomorrow?
--> It is what day tomorrow.

Blacknomi
--> It is Thursday day tomorrow.

The symbol * is used to represent ungrammatical structures. Sentences 1 through 4 are ungrammatical. In my dialect, "date" is specific; it requires "the"; e.g., What's the date?

1. *What date is it?
2. *What date is it tomorrow?
3. *What date is it, please?
4. *Novemeber 17th date it is.

Sentence 4. is ungrammatical, too. There are too many nouns.

Brackets (...) are used to represent an omitted structure.
2. What do you mean by (saying that) it does not require an adjective modifier?

Well, you heard right, but there's a difference between 'color' and 'the color':

What is the color? (OK)
What is color? (Not OK)

What color is it? (OK; 'What' functions as a modifier)
What the color is it? (Not OK; either "What" or "the" to modify "color", but not both)

Note,
What color? It's blue (in color).
What day? It's Monday.
*What date? It's November 18th. (Note, 'What' is redundant. It stands for the exact same noun as does 'date'.

Replacement
Thursday is the day tomorrrow. (OK)
What is the day tomorrow? (OK; 'What' replaces 'Thursday')

Thursday day is it tomorrow? (Not OK; Two nouns as subject)
What day is it tomorrow? (OK; 'What' replaces 'Thurs-')

It is what day tomorrow. (OK)
It is Thursday day tomorrow. (Not OK; '-day' is not required)

November 18th is the date tomorrow. (OK)
What is the date tomorrow? (OK; 'What' replaces 'November 17th')

November 18th date is tomorrow. (Not OK; Two nouns as subject)
What date is tomorrow? (Not OK--in my dialect: 'November 17th' is not a modifier. It's a date, specifically, it's the date tomorrow.

November 18th is the date tomorrow. (OK)
What is the date tomorrow? (OK; 'What' replaces 'November 18th')

November 18th is tomorrow. (OK)
What is tomorrow? (OK)
