Tense Variation within a paragraph
What are the rules for tense variation - Can I use present tense in one sentence and then past tense in the second? See example below.
Originally scheduled to be completed in November of 2008, the project finished two and a half months ahead of schedule, in time for classes to begin after fall break.

I think in the US they do say, 'after fall break', rather than 'after the fall break' In how many movies have I heard that kind of reference! I kind of like it.
