Default Is the gramatical and mechanics correct here?

It is important to recapture the communication tools that were used by battered women in the past. Usually some of the methods that these women used to voice out their pain were things such diaries, letters, small notes to their friends, poems, music etc. Latter they would go to support groups, some would be too afraid to reach out because of their religion or family values, etc, however there was the need to reach out to others to share their stories and find help. Humans are relational individuals and so there was that constant struggle to find ways to communicate. When the telephone was invented they found that they could talk with their friends from long distances and this great invention brought an immense closeness to the battered women communities. Women saw there was power when their communities came together, however more crucial than uniting as a group was the necessity to have communication tools available to them.
