As/When and correct prepositions
As/When we stepped on/onto the sandy beach, a gentle breeze blew in/on/onto our faces.
Which word in bold should I use for each of the cases?
Many thanks in advance.

Usually, I wouldn't say that a gentle breeze blew into my face, because 'gentle breeeze' and 'blew in our faces' don't seem to go together. When something 'blows in my face', it's usually not perceived as gentle.
