| In addition, here are the reasons: Quote:
'in the afternoon' is an adverbial phrase, and so it requires an adverbial modifier, notably, the relative adverb 'when'. Quote:
The verb 'break' is plural, so it requires a plural subject. Of the choices above, only D., 'Those who', is plural. Quote:
The subject 'Beihai Park' is singular, as is its subject complement modifier 'one of the most...', so its relative modifier (i.e., that/which) should also be singular. Of the choices given, only C., 'that was', is singular. |

| As I read it, "that were built" refers to "beautiful parks" ie. you take the set of parks that were built 300 years ago, then you pick one. FRC |

| A tricky structure indeed. I concur with Casiopea's reasoning, but the sentence is still flawed (even with 'ago' replacing 'age'. It should be something like "Beihai Park, built about three hundred years ago, is one of the most beautiful parks in Beijing." or (if Francois has indeed grasped the intended meaning) "Beihai Park is one of the most beautiful parks of those which were built about 300 years ago in Beijing." In fact, now I come to think of it, I'm not entirely convinced that one can 'build' a park.... |
