Are these sentences correct?
The following sentences are written in the past form.
but now, tonight confuse me.
1. Now they were twenty and they had not seen each other for years.
2.Twenty years ago tonight I I dined here with my friend.

yes, "now" used like that can be confusing. It means 'at the time referred to'. (= 'at the time being talked about')
2.twenty years ago tonight i i dined here with my friend.
it means tonight (is)(will be) exactly 20 years ago since i dined here with my friend. (not 20 years ago this morning or noon or afternoon)
