Hello,
I was watching an old TV show the other day called "The honeymooners' and I heard "It's a lot of /mola:ki/ " This is the phonetic transcription. Could anyone tell what the correct word and spelling looks like?
Context
The wife was telling her husband that sleepwalking was caused by nervousness but obviously the husband didn't agree and said "It's a lot of ..."
Thank you
malarky is a term used in the 40's and 50's to mean: bunch of junk, BS, crap, untruths.
sorry - that's marlarkey
foolish talk
(I am not a teacher) The word is "malarkey" or "malarky": it means foolish talk or something that does not have or make sense. It was commonly used in the mid-20th century although you will still hear it nowadays on occasion!
Thanks to all of you for your quick response
