The expression: Pound the pavement
i.e. I was wondering what today would bring, so I pounded the pavement daydreaming.![]()
Well, the sentence is OK grammatically, but it does not really reveal the meaning of the idiom. 'Pounding the pavement' involves hard, long walking in the city with a goal in mind: 'I pounded the pavement looking for a job'; 'The policemen are now pounding the pavement more, in order to better relate to the local residents'.
