I have a dispute with several lingocritics.
What is the proper way : 'an hotel' or 'a hotel'?

Most people say 'a hotel'. If you want to sound like Lady Bracknell, you could say 'an hotel' (pronounced "an 'otel"). However, nowadays you might get laughed at.
