Default bridge over troubled water

Hi,

"Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down"

1. What is 'troubled water'? Is it a common phrase to say or write in English?

Thanks

Default Re: bridge over troubled water

A river in spate can be described as having troubled waters. It metaphorically means that events are out of control.
