I'm making up a multiple choice test on oblique moods for my students. I need to be sure that only one of the suggested options is possible, otherwise the sentence would be invalid. Could you check these sentences for the possibility of more than one answers? (The right option is underlined)
1. Though the parties had been discussing the contract for several hours, they sounded as if they ___ never ___ it.
a) should ... sign
b) would ... have signed
c) will ... sign
d) would ... sign
2. The opposition demands that the Prime Minister ___ all the facts public.
b) should have made
d) will make
3. It is advisable that he ___ the audience by telling a few jokes before the show begins.
a) has warmed up
b) should warm up
c) would warm up
d) warmed up
4. The purpose of the meeting is that he ___ to find a way of settling the dispute.
a) should try
c) will try
d) would try
5. The place is full of cockroaches! If only you ___ along some insect spray.
a) had brought
b) would have brought
d) might have brought

Engee, could you elaborate on the alternative variants in 4 and 5?

The only one that I find problematic is 4. I think that a/ and b/ could be used, even c/ in certain contexts.
All the others are good.
