    Cool action-figure

    At next sentence:

He rose to action-figure fame on the pro wrestling circuit.

What does "action-figure" mean? It seems the usual meaning is linked to some kind of toy, doll, figurine... So, in this case, what is this term referring to?

    Thank You

Here is what I associate an action figure with:
    -powerful
    -succesful(ly marketed)

IMO, action-figure fame means considerable fame that is difficult to rise to.

So, do you think it could be said as:

He rose as an icon on the pro wrestling circuit ?

An "action figure" is a male version of a doll. For example, Barbie is a doll, but G.I. Joe is an action figure. The reasoning is, young males wouldn't purchase anything marketed as a "doll," so when professional wrestlers or other athletes are turned into dolls, they are marketed as "action figures."
