1. How come this doesn't need an apostrophe?

Quote:
15. This is a monster's engine. (the engine belongs to a monster)
2. Why do I need an apostrophe here?

What do these mean? I know these sounds awkward, but I want to know what do they mean. Thanks.
3. This is an electronics' company. (The company belongs to 'electronics'=devices?)
4. This is an electronic's company. (The company belongs to 'electronic'=electrons?)

5. 'System' Is a noun, so why can't I use 'systems' without the apostrophe? What does it mean when it is like that?

For nouns, how do I know if I need to add -s or not to make it an adjective?

Are these correct? If not, why?
9. I need a headphone jack splitter. (Correct.)
10. I need a headphones jack splitter. (Is 'heaphones' is incorrect, why? 'headphones' is a noun, why is that wrong? Don't nouns act as an adjective too?)

10. I need a knife sharpener. (Correct.)

Google has 71, 100 results for 'knives sharpener'?

1a. electronics' company = a company owned by electronics
1b. electronic's company = a company owned by an electronic

2. 'monster' is a noun, and when nouns function as adjectives they don't take -s, so if -s is added it turns 'monster' back into a noun; e.g., monster engine(adjective) => *monsters engine (adjective) => monster's (noun)

5a. your system's performance. (the performance of your system)
5b. your systems' performance. (the performance of many systems)
5c. your system performance. (a kind of performance known as 'system')

9. I need a headphone jack splitter. (I'm not familiar with that term, sorry)
10. I need a headphones jack splitter. (same as above)

10. I need a knife sharpener. (compound noun)

I'll let someone else answer the rest.

Thanks.

What do these mean?
1. This is an electronic product.
2. This is an electronics product. ( I don't get it. 'electronics' is plural right? And that means devices right? So what does it mean when I say 'electronics product'? If it is wrong, why? 'electronics company' is correct? )

For the adjective for 'electronic', how do I know if it is 'electronic' or 'electronics'?

'Electronics' is this word plural or singular? If it is plural, does it mean 'devices'?

Could someone help me with the post above? Thanks.

The word 'electronic' and 'electronics' is driving me nuts. I don't get how it works.

Are these correct? What do these mean?
1. I need some electronic gifts.
2. I need some electronics gifts. ('electronics' is a noun here right? But it isn't wrong though right? What does the sentence mean?)

3. This is an an electronic keyboard.
4. This is an an electronics keyboard. (Does it mean a keyboard with eletronic devices?

http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_18...ectronics.html
5. The electronic parts of a piece of equipment are fine.
6. The electronics parts of a piece of equipment are fine.

7. These electronic devices are fine.
8. These electronics devices are fine.

Quote:
2. 'monster' is a noun, and when nouns function as adjectives they don't take -s, so if -s is added it turns 'monster' back into a noun; e.g., monster engine(adjective) => *monsters engine (adjective) => monster's (noun)
9. I have a monsters engine. (incorrect. Why? 'mosters' is a noun? That is not okay? Why is #10 okay?))
10. I have a electronics company. (Why is #9 incorrect and #10 is correct? So 'electronics' is an adective or a noun here? How do you know if 'electronics' doesn't transform back into a noun?)

Quote:
9. This is an electronic company. (A company that is electronic)
10. This is an electronics company.(A company that deals in electronics)
What do these mean?
11. We need some eye contact.
12. We need some eyes contact. (What does this mean? Is it incorrect? If so, why? Is it because 'eyes' is a noun? How come 'electronics company' is right? How do you know when it's right or wrong?)

'Ergonomics' is an uncountable noun right? Is that a singular noun then? If it can be used both ways, how do I use it then?
1. The ergonomics of this car is good. (If this is incorrect, why?)
2. The ergonomics of this car are good.

3. The esthetics is good.
4. The esthetics are good.

Are these synonymous?
5. It can be used both ways. (Is 'in' omitted here?)
6. It can be used in both ways.

Thanks.
