    I am afraid there's no "become late", "to be" + "late" sounds better:

    He's notorious for beeing late.

    Come in before it's too late!

    Or '... before it gets late'. "Get" has the advantage of conveying the idea of becoming, which - as marciobarbalho says - doesn't collocate with 'late'.
