follow the lead -- Imagine a dog with a collar to which a lead is attached. What does the dog do? She follows the lead. Why? She has no choice, power, or will.

I just... you know, want to make sure that I got this in a correct way.
Okay, here are my two different way of understanding about these two "lead".

1. For example. some people like to lead, (some people like to be the best at sth., to be in the first place) and some prefer to follow the lead of others. (and some prefer to copy their action, to follow their steps to be the best or first)

2. For example. some people like to lead, (some people like to be the leader of sb./ sth., to head sb./sth.) and some prefer to follow the lead of others. (and some prefer to follow others' leadership, to be willing to be controled by others)

Pyoung, these are my two kinds of comprehension about the original sentence. What is your opinion?
