Default interesting + to inf. or gerund?

Hello

What's correct?

1. It's interesting listening to...

2. It's interesting to listen to...

When I google the two patterns, I get considerably more hits for 2. However, also pattern 1 seems to be used (on seemingly trustworthy websites). E.g.

"I have to say it is interesting listening to the coverage because you get to hear the afternoon without the intrusion from the studio in your ears or with the other distractions you get on a Saturday."
BBC - South Yorkshire - Radio Sheffield - Seth's Sports Blog #5

Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

Kind regards from Switzerland

Nico

Number 2 definitely sounds more natural to me.

But if you switch the word order, 'Listening to ____ is interesting.' sounds very much more natural than 'To listen to ____ is interesting.'

It's interesting to listen to... - talking about a general attitude.
It's interesting listening to... - talking about a specific attitude; in that text, the author is listening, not necessarily at the time of speaking, or has been listening to the coverage. He knows exactly what it means to listen to the coverage - in this case, the listening is interesting.
