    If you draw an analgy between two things, between a simple concept, system, etc., and a more complex or yet unknown one, you draw on the information you know about the simple to discover and explain the nature of the more complex.

    Niels Bohr's model of the atom drew an analogy between the atom and the solar system to help make those abstractions in the atomic structure more easily understood.
