Drums can be divided according to shape. Some of the types are tubular, vessel, and frame drums.
One of the most common tubular drums is the long drum. A lot of long drums are cylindrical - they have the same diameter from top to bottom - like this Polynesian drum. This drum was carved from a length of tree trunk and has a single-skin head.

Q1: Does the "head" refers to the drum head, the end of the drum?

Q2: Then what does "single-skin mean? I mean, I do not know what the skin refers to here. ?

The drum head, or skin, is the part you beat or hit with a stick.
Haven't you ever noticed that drums are made with some skin-like substance stretched over a rim? Some drums have skins on both ends and you can play them horizontally, each hand beating one end of the drum.
The long drum you're describing has a skin on only one end. The other end is hollow. It's probably held vertically (with the skin at the top ;)

In fact, now I think about it, I'm not sure about the head; it may be made from a bongo's skin. But the sides of the drum, with the distinctive brown and white markings, certainly are.

Bobk, I read the article you offered again and I do not think that I definitely get what you said, but...

The head (drumhead) refers to the stretched membrane of the drum, right? And then the head is usually made of some kind of animal skin.
I found some thing more about Polynesian drum here,
