Misery and sorrow, miserable and sorrowful. I think these pairs both mean sadness but is any of them emotionally stronger than other?
Misery and sorrow - nouns
Miserable and sorrowful - adjectives
I understand it. I meant if there's any difference between misery and sorrow OR miserable and sorrowful.
Usually "sorrow" indicates deep, heart-breaking despair due to something like the death of a loved one.
"Misery" indicates very deep sad feelings about anything else - because you're ill, you've lost your job, your car broke down and you can't afford to repair it, etc.
Thanks.
