There is a wisdom from Lin Yutang:"The one and only right track for learning English, is to imitate and recite it. Imitation is to imitate a sentence, and recitation is to recite it after imitating until you can speak it out naturally. You must be successful along this way to learn English."

To imitate and recite what? An article? It is unlikely to demand every Chinese student to do so? A word? Yes, Chinese student have been doing so, but this is less effective, because the students don't know how to use a word properly . So Lin Yutang said 'to recite a sentence". So I rewrote "it" as "a sentence". Does it work? Here is some wisdom from Lin Yutang: "The one and only right track for learning English is to imitate and recite a sentence until you can speak it out naturally. You must be successful in this method in order to learn English."

Yes, that works fine, NH. (I don't believe that a sentence is a unique necessity, though. Sentences are too arbitrary a language division to focus upon; much communication is done in fragments and run-ons. Insisting upon 'sentences' just reinforces the weakpoints of English language education in China.)
