Are these correct:

1-Some are for the plan, others are against it and some others don't care.

2-Some are for the plan, others are against it and still others don't care.

The first one is fine. I wouldn't use the second one. (The word still doesn't work as an adjective there.)



(The phrase still others got more than 1.2 million hits on Google. So, apparently, quite a few people disagree with me.)

Some are for the plan, others are against it, and the rest don't care.

After giving the matter further thought (I can't help myself), I have decided that "still others" works best when "others" has been used once already. Example:

Some wanted to go hiking; some wanted to go fishing; some wanted to go swimming; others wanted to go into town and go shopping; still others wanted to stay and do as little as possible.

That is, of course, just my opinion. Others may differ. Still others won't care one way or the other.




P.S. I noticed that in the original post that sentence 2 passes the "others" test.
