Hello,
I am a student from Romania and I want to apply for a Masters Degree in Computer Science at one of the Universities in Denmark. I understand that the motivation letter is crucially important, so I will appreciate if you take the time to give me some advice and suggest correction of grammar errors, style or structure of text. Thank you all!
"To The Selection Committee:
I am a Romanian student who graduated last summer with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. I want to dedicate the next two years of my life to studying for a Master Degree at your University. Having the possibility to do this in a foreign country and with your prestigious University, not only gives me the chance to get more knowledge, but also allows me to get to know new people, live in a different culture and develop new skills. The Software Development Master degree you are offering has all that it takes to offer the best establishment for my personal growth and future career development.
I studied Computer Science for four years in the beautiful town of Iasi, Romania. I was offered a half year internship by Amazon.com and being part of their development team was an eye-opening experience for me. It is in this period when I learned the value of good time management, team work, commitment and what it means to work in the real industry. I am a highly competitive person, being also involved in Microsoft’s Imagine Cup contest and getting better and better from reaching the semi-finals in two of their competitions to becoming Algorithm Ambassador and Algorithm Invitational Assistant Captain. This allowed me to coordinate and organize a team of well-prepared students to take part in this incredible experience. I am passionate about Computer Graphics and Programming and I developed myself one stand-alone application for Optical Music Recognition and a full 3D open-source game, for the creation of which I used different technologies including third-party open-source frameworks and platforms. This required me to do a lot of research and make use of some existing algorithms, but with a need to refine them. For two years I was the coordinator of a student organization called Hope for the Third Millennium, which main purpose was to help poor and marginalized people. This helped me to better understand what humans need, how they think and react in different situations and how to better understand them and communicate with them.
I chose to do something different for my degree thesis, which will also allow computers to better understand what a written message is actually communicating. My degree thesis focused on temporal aspects in natural language programming, dealing with advanced text analysis problems and testing a new theory about how sentences related to each other. The successful completion of this project gave me the satisfaction of work done right and of years of learning pay-back.
I had a wide range of activities and interests during my undergraduate studies, but now I want to focus on Software Development. I want to improve in every domain of my life and pursuing a Master’s Degree in Denmark offers me the perfect setting for this. The student life, community and the close relationship with the professors in your University are the best way of getting the most out of this study period.
Thank you very much for considering my application request. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely yours,
Elvis Alistar
