seeing a movie

Hi teachers

I understand see a movie is a common collocation, but is it okay to use it in progressive aspect as below?

1.When the earthquake happened, I was seeing a movie at a theater.
2.When the earthquake happened, I was seeing a movie with my boyfriend.

It sounds odd to me.

1.When the earthquake happened, I was watching a movie at a theater.

You dont sit and see the TV, you sit and watch it.
