I'm trying to find out the name of this part of a fruit.
It's...err....you see, the green part of the three tomatoos here:

Peppers, eggplants, and many other fruits or vegetables have this part as well.....

or the part that connects the fruit to the rest of the plant

even if you cut off most of the stem, the part that is left is still the stem

yes stem is pretty general, but in this case, it is the most specific one available short of digging up some scientific terms

1. it is 'tomato'
2. if you want, but mostly it depends on context. If you are talking about tomatoes and mention the stem, people will know what you're talking about.

You could, I think, call that the stem, but you could also call that the stalk.

As AintFoolin noted so well, the stem is the part that connects the fruit to the rest of the plant. Thus, that term would apply to apples, pears, peaches, etc.

As I'm greatly influenced by my mother tongue (Chinese),
I thought there must be a different name for that part -- differentiates it from the tube-like part.

I found this word though:

pedicel - the structure attaching an individual flower to the flower stem.

Does it refer to what I'm looking for?
