Hi
He'd got into a very big black hole and just couldn't see a way out of it. It was just a black dog that was savaging him.
--- I understand that "black dog" must be some metaphor. What does it mean actually?

I don't know if he was the first to use this metaphor, but Winston Churchill sometimes referred to his Black Dog.
