But even if A says 'food', B may respond with a reference to the specific items that are being burned to perfection, so would say 'them'. Otherwise, the response should be: B: I know. Just leave it. I let it burn intentionally. It tastes better that way.)

How do (can) you eat this?
I couldn’t. Even though if you gave me [a specific amount of money], I couldn’t.
or: I couldn't eat that if you paid me!
