    Default weather

    Are there any definite rules for using articles with the noun 'weather', apart from the restriction on 'a'?

    E.g. He doesn't like to go out in cold weather. (zero article)
    People like to talk about the weather. (the definite article)

    In both sentences 'weather' has a general meaning, however the choices of article are different. Why?
