Interjection: 'chang'. What does it mean?

It goes like this:

Snapping on the microphone of his car radio Tinbane said, "I'm at Forest Knolls Cemetery - I think it's called - and I have a 1206, here. Better send an ambulance out with a digging crew; from the sound of her voice it's urgent."

"Chang," the radio said in answer. "Our digging crew will be out before morning."

Digging crew is people who pick those who have come back to life up from beneath the ground. In fact, it's the right opposite of a funeral procession, sort of. The novel is all about reversed things, for example there is "vitarium" (resembles "mortuary").

Well, it's like this, 'Chang' refers to the sound the radio makes when you hit the call button on the microphone. I personally wouldn't use 'Chang', though. To me, the sound is more like "Ksshh".

Solved. I guess it must have been quite a weird mike, making "chang".
