The following sentences are movie review about 'The Notebook' and some of the red parts are very confusing to me and I want you to help me to understand it. Thanks in advance.
1.Its( the notebook) production values are gorgeous-lavish and beautiful cinematography used to best effect when ...... 2. The underlying romantic score holds back on the cheese. THe two young lead actors are compelling to watch, particularly in their spirited youth when they display moments of quirkiness and easy natural conversation not often seen in period romances.
1 I'm not sure what 'values' is doing there, but I assume it means that the sets, the filming, etc, are all extravagant.
2 The music (score) avoids embarrassingly bad taste cliches (cheese).
3 Quirkiness = originality that is unexpected and a bit risky
