Red face Correction of some sentences

Are these sentences ok? Thank you for your help...

1. A proof that our friendship used to be and still is very strong is that we are still close today even if we chose a different high school program and also we will never forget one aspect of our lives : our shared passion for tennis.

2. Back to that time, I was alone in facing such a frightening situation.

3. We shared the same visions of life.

4. However, before we started our first grade after a marvellous summer spent outside to play from the sunrise to that fabulous show which represented sunset, she and her family decided to turn over a new leaf because her father heard through the grapevine that an interesting job was not filled in Quebec city.

5. Because his little brother was his closest friend, Martin accepted that deal and saw Yves pedaled away on his famous machine. He seemed so happy to do such an unpretentious activity.

6. Like any child of my age, I was trying different activities to find which ones fit best with my personality, my talents and my tastes. After soccer, ice skating and gymnastics, my parents didn't know anymore where they could register their dear daughter.

7. There was no shortage of opportunities to have a good laugh!

Turning over a new leaf is meant more to suggest that you change your habits, as in for example, someone has never exercised, and now decides to join a gym. They would be turning over a new leaf.

because Her father heard through the grapevine that an interesting job was not filled in Quebec city. this is o.k., but a better way to say it could be that there was an interesting job available in Q.C.. Or, say that the job was not yet filled in Quebec City. That would show that he was aware of the job opportunity, but he had thought it was already filled.

5. Because his little brother was his closest friend, Martin accepted that deal and saw Yves pedalling away on his famous machine. He seemed so happy to do such an unpretentious activity.

Delete the underlined, replace with the red, and try to express the turning over a new leaf differently. It does mean making a change, doing something different, but in the sentence that you posted, it could be better.

In sentence # 5, unpretentious is also o.k. but as you are talking about a little brother, the word unpretentious, is frankly, a bit pretentious. Find another word which means the same or is at least similar and describes the bicycle or whatever of a "little brother".

I am not a teacher.

Yes, it's better, but I still have reservations about turning over a new leaf, and unpretentious. It is certainly gramatically corrrect.
