Hello, there. I am reading an article about football. Its title is "Cup-holders Rangers net easy win". What does net mean in the title? Does the net mean something like a fishing net?
Just as one could say, "He netted a 6 pound salmon." using the idea of reeling the fish in, then holding out a hand-net so it drops into the net, and that's how he brings it to shore...
It means he caught it, got it.
"Cup-holders Rangers net easy win".
is newspaper headline English, where short evocative words are used; and 'net' means 'got, obtained'.
It has the sense of going out hunting/fishing with a net/butterfly chasing with a net, and bringing home the catch! They went out of the football field, did battle with the other team (as fisherman does battle with an elusive trout in a stream!) and they obtained an easy win.
