I'm looking for a word
You know when you spilled milk on the floor. What do you feel? You feel that the milk is ____________(That it was a waste.)
I wonder if there's a similar word in English to mean "sayang" in Filipino. Please fill in the blank for me. Thanks!!!

Hi blouen,
The word wasted would definitely fit here.
You might also feel that you should be more careful about pouring milk.
But as the saying goes: It's no use crying over spilled milk.

Re: I'm looking for a word
Personally, I would feel annoyed with myself. This is because I have wasted the milk, I have to clean it up, and I will have to visit the store again to replace it.

Wasted is the word. Spoilt only applies when it goes smelly and bad, not when spilt.

Incidentally, there's no typo or slip here. The two are interchangeable. In fact one of the course books I work from (New Cutting Edge, Upper-Int, if memory serves) uses one in the text and the other in the Mini-Dictionary.
I'm not sure where the idea of "spoilt" came from. Perhaps there was an early edit that I missed. "Spoilt" and "spilt" both exist too, but they're not interchangeable
(The difference, come to think of it, is often sorted out by collocation: you can have a 'spoilt brat' or 'spilt milk'...)

Re: I'm looking for a word
Thanks for the many replies...
Wasted - It's because you find it unusable... Is this what you guys mean with the word?
If so... I'm sorry but it doesn't suffice my question...
The Filipino word "Sayang" means that you feel a little upset because you find it unusable and that you spent for it.
Example:
I bought a new shirt but it doesn't fit me. Sayang!
Can you also please give me some sentences using 'wasted'. Thanks!!!

Re: I'm looking for a word
Ahh.
Then: you spill milk and say, "That was a waste!" (You feel annoyed with yourself for being so clumsy.)
"I just bought a new shirt and the damn thing doesn't fit me. What a waste of money!"
