Amazon dieback is one of the key positive feedbacks brought about by global warming. These are typically runaway processes in which global temperature rises lead to further releases of COČ, which in turn brings about more global warming. In the Amazon this happens on a more localised scale but the result, increased forest death, also releases carbon into the atmosphere. thanks

It makes no sense to me, either. If carbon in the atmosphere bad, why is more carbon in the atmosphere good? I don't get it. =O.

Global warming, due to CO2, causes the trees to die. As they rot, they release more CO2. This causes further warming, which causes further tree death. Thus you have a feedback loop. I cannot say why the author considers this beneficial. Perhaps he is an Amazonian cattle farmer.
