Which of the two is better

Some patients are under the notion that a highly priced medicine could be far more effective than a lowly priced one.

Some patients are under the notion that a highly priced medicine is far more effective than a lowly priced one.

Can we replace "highly priced" with costly and lowly priced with cheap?

What about?

The general assumption among patients is that medicine has to be expensive (in order) to be effective.
