    Default put in

    Hi there,

What does put in mean in the following sentence:
"Efforts put in over the last year."

    Thank you

    Hi there,

Isn't there the need to use the passive voice?
Efforts were put in over the last year?

    Thank you

Sorry - I have just seen your post.

    Your question is good.

Isn't there the need to use the passive voice

No. Here, 'put (in)' is past participle, as in:

Raw materials used to produce linoleum are quite expensive.

If this helps, the original was not a sentence, but a noun phrase.

[Efforts put in over the last year] were successful.
