Tim, the fooltballer, always scores____ at football matches.
a. goals b. points
The key is 'a'. No problem. But I have read the phrase "score points". Does it mean in football match we must use 'goals'? Could you please kindly explain in what matches we can use "score points"?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

I used to be a football referee for 11 years and before that I played another 15 years, but I have never heard the phrase "to score points" in football.
lenient means to turn the other side when something does not happen as it should. What the context requires is not this.
Or is it American football?
