Let me check one more thing.

Does "I am going to a restaurant to meet my family for dinner" sound unnatural? Should I say, "I am going to the restaurant to meet my family for dinner."? I thought it would be okay to say, "I am going to a restaurant to...," if the person I am talking to does not know which one is "the restaurant."

If "I am going to a restaurant to meet my family for dinner" sounds unnatural, what about "I went to a restaurant to meet my family for dinner."?

Sorry for my sticky question.
None of those sounds unnatural to me. If you say "a restaurant" you are showing that the person you're talking to won't be familiar with it. If you say "the restaurant" this makes the person think you are referring to a restaurant both of you know, and frequent.

When you want to identify you use "the".

"I'm going to a bank" - I am not telling my friend which bank.
"I'm going to the bank" - I am assuming that my friend knows or can guess which bank (not because it is important). Your friend says "Do you go to the National Bank of Tokyo?" "Yes" you say. Now once the bank is identified you cannot go back and say "a bank" without raising curiosity.
