If a sentence had a past tense, does it mean the rest of the sentence requires a past tense also?
She asked if I like to eat.
Not necessarily:
She asked if I wanted to eat. (If I was hungry atthat moment)
She asked if I like to eat. (If I generally am interested in food and enjoy eating)

'She said she must love me, so we are going to get married in the spring.' There is no necessary connection between verb tenses in a sentence.
