Hello, there. I am reading an article about English soccer. I think that it is hard to understand the article about the soccer.
" Cristiano Ronaldo scored a stunning goal in the sixth minute for United from just shy of the 40 yard mark."
Is the red like "I am shy"?
In the context of that sentence, shy means "short" or "deficient". Thereby, a conclusion may be drawn that the soccer player scored at one point not far from the 40 yard mark or he did it at a distance less than the said mark.
