breast cancer
May I know what do we name :
1) the bag with some content that we put in the breast for a patient whom just had the breast removed due to breast cancer in order to maintain the shape of a healthy breast
2) the contents inside the bag (I heard there are two kinds of the contents in the bag. One is ok to be absorbed by body tissue once it leaked while another is a gel-like substance which can not be absorbed in human body.)
3) the name of this operation (due to cancer)
4) the name of the operation like above not due to any illness but purely for good looking

Re: breast cancer
1. A breast implant.
2. Saline or silicon gel.
3. Masectomy (removal of diseeased tissue). Augmentation (implant)
4. We would normally use "comestic" to describe this.

Dear Jamiep,
Thanks for your reply.
Shall I say make sentences:
1) "Last year, Joan took a masectomy surgery to have the diseased tissue removed and followed by a breast augmentation surgery. Unfortunately, she has to face another breast augmentation surgery today due to the leakage of the breast implant which claimed lasting for 10 years, having the saline spread all over the tissue around the breast."
2) "Mary is having her comestic breast implant."
3) "Mary is having her comestic breast augmentation."

Re: breast cancer
1) "Last year, Joan had a mastectomy [all of what you wrote after that is simply what a mastectomy is] followed by breast augmentation surgery. Unfortunately, she has to face another breast augmentation surgery today due to the leakage of the breast implant over the last 10 years."
2) "Mary is having cosmetic breast surgery."
3) "Mary is getting a boob job."

Re: breast cancer
Having an implant put in after a mastectomy is called "reconstructive surgery," not "breast augmentation." Augmentation is surgery which uses an implant to enhance an existing breast. So your first sentence should read:
"Last year, Joan underwent a mastectomy, followed by reconstructive surgery. Unfortunately, she has to face another breast surgery today due to the leakage of the faulty implant."

Dear Quisch,
Sorry, I am still not able to tell the difference between 'reconstructive surgery' & 'augmentation' as I thought 'using an implant to enhance an existing breast' is a sort of 'reconstruction'. Kindly explain.

After a mastectomy, most if not all of the breast tissue is removed. The surgeon must reconstruct an entirely new breast using an implant.
In the case of an augmentation, a woman who has a small bustline has implants inserted in order to enlarge her existing breasts. The surgeon is not "rebuilding" or reconstructing, he is adding to or enhancing the area. For example, Posh Spice before and after her breast augmentation.
