    Default Confusion regarding noun phrases

    Hi there.I am currently studying about phrases and i am really confused.The following exercise requires me to underline the noun phrases in the sentence. However, the answers that i got are different from my answers. Please help me to identify the noun phrases in the sentences, and i will compare it with my answers. TIA.

    1. They totally forgot to tell me about it.
    2.She no longer avoids singing in public.
    3.This doesn't entitle you to speak at meetings.
    4.To accomodate us, he has postponed going abroad.
    5.He let us down after raising our hopes sky-high.
    6.Their business seemed to flourish despite the recession.
    7.They will not succeed in inimidating that girl.
    8.Feeling miserable, I went away quietly.
    9.To keep them amused, she told them stories.
    10.Confronting him would only make things worse.

    Those in different colour are noun phrase.

    Noun phrases function as subjects and as objects, and they can be replaced by what. You can test this by using cleft sentences:

    1. They totally forgot to tell me about it.
    Cleft: To tell me about it is what they totally forgot.

    2.She no longer avoids singing in public.
    Cleft: Singing in public is what she no longer avoids.
