Please explain the relation between the 2 sentences here in this passage:

Children who attend private high schools may initially feel that they can succeed without doing the work required, but as they grow older they realize the necessity of serious study. Each year the overwhelming majority of students disciplined for plagiarism and cheating on their exams is found in the freshman class.

Basically,what does the passage exactly mean?

Younger students are more likely to try to cheat than older students. However, I don't know why it limits this idea to private high schools, nor why it generalizes to assume most students will cheat if they can.
