Degree credentials in signature

When is it appropriate to add a degree credential (ie, MBA) to one's signature? In my view, only when it is relevant (ie, professional correspondence). I have a friend who uses it in all personal correspondence (mail or email). I find the addition irrelevant and inappropriate (a bit of misplaced pride). I can't think of anything positive that this statement of academic achievement could accomplish in personal correspondence. Am I right?

I'm not going to attempt to give you a detailed list of situations where one might list such credentials, but I agree with you completely. Use them in situations where they are genuinely relevant. I can think of other things to call it, but I'll go with your phrase: misplaced pride.

I can't add to your list of positive things that might come from doing this, but I can think of a number of negative ones.
