Re: One night stand?
hmmm... interesting...
welll... if you are in a bar, having drinks, hard week, you've been working like a dog, then you deserve something to make things even, then want someone to "catch up", you know, then you take this person home or... well, it's up to you.. so, after a great night, next morning you decide to get back to work... well... that's a night stand.

Re: One night stand?
There aren't other uses that I know of. And yes, it's "one-night stand" not "standing."
If you "have a one-night stand" it means you had sex with someone that you don't intend to see again.
Have you seen it used in another context? If so, could you provide it? We can try to decypher what was meant.
(Obviously, it wouldn't apply to something like "The private detective spent one night standing around waiting to catch the cheating husband in the act.")
