What's / What're
Are these correct? If not, why?
1. What's the odds of that? (I saw this on TV. How come 'what's' is not 'what're' ?)
2. What're the odds of that?
What's: How do you know what the apostrophe -s is abbreviated for?
Thanks.

What're is correct. Many people do use what's in place of what're though, simply because it is easier to say. It's a pronunciation thing.
