Default Usage of since

Would the following usage be considered correct

Person A has been suffering from this problem since a year.

Does this sentence necessarily have to end as 'since a year ago'.

Hello,

Person A has been suffering from this problem since a year.

Does this sentence necessarily have to end as 'since a year ago'.
(Does this sentence also work with the ending of "since a year ago"?)
"since" and "ago" together doesn't work.

Example:
Person A has been suffering from this problem since a year.
This sentence means, that their suffer begins a year ago, and to last till today perhaps till in the future.

Person A suffered from this problem a year ago.
This sentence means, that they suffered from this problem last year. But today is everything ok.

Hope that helps,
Dany

I don't think "since a year" is right. It should be "for a year" or since and a specific point in time like "since November".

Many thanks for your updates till date.

As i understand it,

"Person A has been suffering from this problem since a year." -> is gramatically incorrect.

"Person A has been suffering from this problem since a year ago" -> is also gramatically incorrect and the usage of Since in conjungtion with ago is not correct.

"Person A has been suffering from this problem for a year" -> would be correct

"Person A has been suffering from this problem since January 2004" -> would be correct.

"Person A has been suffering from this problem since last year" -> Would also be correct.

Adding to the above, would it be correct to say

"Person A has been suffering from this problem since one year" or for example

"Person A has been suffering from this problem since 3 years"

Would the usage of "ago" at the end be required/make the sentences incorrect/would not affect the gramatical correctness of the above 2 sentences.

Thanks a lot once more for the replies.

Regards,
Karthick
