    Default figure of speech

    I cannot recollect what figure of speech is "silken colour".
    PLEASE HELP.

    Is it a figure of speech? It seems to have the literal meaning of "the colour of silk". Do you have other examples; or what is the figurative content that needs explaining?

    Well, for example, a silk scarf is made of silk, whereas a silken scarf is as soft as silk, feels like silk. One cannot feel a color though, which means that silken color is metaphorical.

    Isn't the analogy with wood/ wooden the one that applies here? That is, silken might also be made of silk.

    I think he's talking about synaesthesia too, unless he means in a physical sense that the colour of a fabric is literally shimmering.
