Hi Raymott, why did you write:
"Did you not read this line": I don't understand the position of Did in your sentence.
Did you mean:
1) You didn't read this line or
2) Didn't you read this line?
Sorry, yes, there should have been a question mark. "Did you not read this line?" It means 2. You don't have to copy that style,
By the way, I didn't me to hurt you with my reply.
I wasn't offended.
I thought it was strange the fact the you used she/her in your example. (I had seen that you had added the possible change); usually people use the masculine form to make examples; and since you knew that the song was sung by a man it looked even stranger to me; I thought that you were interpreting the lyricfrom the point of view of the reader (in that case me) and so I believed that you believed I was a man.
I did, but that isn't the point. I originally imagined that the song was sung by a woman, and the "you" would therefore be the man she was singing to. After I'd written my reply though, I checked the song on the web, and found that it was usually sung by a man, so I added the postscript.
When I chose my dear nickname I didn't know it was for women as well as for men; in Italian people know from your name if you are a girl or a boy ( except for the short forms of the names).
I know. I still get confused by Italian men who have names that use Greek forms ending in "a", like "Andrea"
But I read you like Italian, so perhaps you already know that....Rip ( By the way I also discovered the the short form of my nickname is the same as Rest in peace.......!!!!!!!!!!)
