Default Is there any difference?

what's the difference between the 2 setences below?

1) The reason wasn't you.
2) The reason wasn't because you.
Is there any difference of is it the same?

In my opinion 2) is incorrect. A close equivalent of 1) using the word 'because' would be: 'It wasn't because of you'.
