Hi, teachers. I've been learning English idioms but there seem to be thousands of them. Am I right? How many often-used idioms are there in English(approximately)? I tend to think I'll never grasp them. (how sad)

Tdol said I was close to the mark with my estimation. I am not positive though, whether he really meant it or just wanted to keep the idioms ball rolling.

I have a dog-eared idioms dictionary which I bought in an Aladin's cave many moons ago traveling the highways and byways of the windswept Yorkshire, England, uphill and downdale. I set my heart on cramming all the fixed phrases in my head from cover to cover, and, by now, I am almost there. I am still not very well-versed in English idioms, and I reckon I am far from being the king of the castle. What I am trying to drive at is that there are many more idioms than 10k.
